ePermit/Permit provides matriculated students with the opportunity to pursue courses at other CUNY colleges or non-CUNY institutions with authorization from the Office of the Registrar while simultaneously attending Hunter College. This will allow the course taken at another institution to be transferred and applied to the student’s record at their home school (where they intend to graduate) to fulfill degree requirements.
ePermit is the process of granting CUNY students’ permission to register for classes at other CUNY campuses. This “electronic permit” is submitted and processed entirely through CUNYfirst as an application in which you will receive an outcome depending on whether the conditions to take the course have been fulfilled based on your record. Students are billed as part of their tuition at their home college.
Permit is utilized for attending accredited colleges and universities outside of CUNY and the process requires both the Office of the Registrar and respective Academic Department for approval and course equivalency determination prior to enrollment. *NOTE: “CR” grades are posted on your Hunter College transcript NOT the original grade earned at the host institution. Please consult with your program advisors to determine if CR grade is applicable with your program.

Students are responsible for monitoring their application status on CUNYfirst and must have access to their student email for communication and instructions from coordinators from Hunter and/or the host colleges. This is a manual process for both the home and host institutions, that may take several days or weeks as administrators require time to review and update your record accordingly.
