A Word From Our CEO

“Empowered by tremendous community support, our successes in clinical care, behavioral health, population health, and research innovations aligned with our focus on the whole child and our mission to provide care regardless of ability to pay, uniquely positions us to change the way pediatric health care is delivered as a national model. We are ready to do even more.”

Integrated Clinical Care and Research

The primary strategy for achieving best outcomes is investing in leading clinical and research programs. This is unchanged from our last plan, but we believe such unrelenting focus has lead us to our leadership position, and we cannot rest on our laurels. We need to keep up the pursuit of achieving the full potential for all of our children.

The steps we will take to achieve this in clinical care are:

  1. Reinforcing our core integrated services
  2. Building new destination programs and expand existing ones
  3. Pursuing geographic expansion via partnerships

Our Distinctive Approach: Three Unique Strengths

Health Equity and Population Health

Because children’s environments have a huge impact on their wellbeing, Nationwide Children’s is furthering its nationally recognized efforts to help children where they are: in their schools, homes, and neighborhoods through population health work and by addressing social determinants of health.

Pediatric Behavioral and Mental Health Care

Nationwide Children’s will continue to advance its groundbreaking work for children and families experiencing mental health crises by investing in new research efforts, staff and clinicians, and innovative resources for parents and other providers.

Genomics Research and Personalized Medicine

Over the next five years, new investments, partnerships and infrastructure will allow The Steve and Cindy Rasmussen Institute for Genomic Medicine to develop novel genomics-enabled research, advance genomics-driven precision medicine and pursue further breakthroughs in the technology of computational genomics and informatics.

Building on our Strong Foundation

Quality and Safety

In 2009, with the launch of the Zero Hero program, Nationwide Children’s became the first children’s hospital in the country to commit to eliminating all preventable harm. It started an international movement to improve pediatric patient outcomes by making pediatric health care safer and more effective. Building on that foundation, over the next five years, Nationwide Children's will establish a new safety framework, reimagine Zero Hero, and establish The Center for Clinical Excellence.
